Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. NOTICES
Mary would like to thank the many, many kind people in our parishes who have offered her support and friendship over the last year and also for the many Christmas cards she has received too! Best wishes to you all for a very Happy Christmas and a good New Year.
Women's Aid – Please can you all make a special effort to include an extra item in your shopping basket to donate to Women’s Aid. We have supported this charity for a number of years at Christmas time and they are always very grateful. They need donations such as non-perishable food, tins and packets, biscuits, tea and coffee, soft drinks, jams, toiletries, etc. Please place donations in the box in church by Sunday, 19th December. Every little helps. Thank you.
Easy Fundraising for St Cuthbert’s Church : How it works – Easy Fundraising are providing a FREE service where you can shop with your favourite online stores and, at no extra cost, raise funds for any charity, good cause or group you choose to support. You still shop directly with each retailer as you would normally but simply by using the links from the easy fundraising site first, each purchase you make will generate a cashback donation to St Cuthbert’s as a worthy cause. You can shop with 2000+ brand name retailers (Amazon, Argos, eBay, Debenhams, etc) and to raise funds you just use the links from the easy fundraising site first – it’s that simple! If you already shop online, why not help good causes at no extra cost from the purchases you would make anyway. To start shopping and donate to St Cuthbert’s, log on using the following link : http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/stcgreatglen or click on the link on St Cuthbert’s web page. Once you’re on the site, you have to register yourself as a user. Then log on as a user and find Amazon or whatever using the links or search on the easyfundraising site and continue as you normally would.
Church Warden – Sadly Chris Otway has had to resign as churchwarden as she has increasingly found it impossible to cope with both a full-time job, a busy family and the demands of being churchwarden. She will still continue to be involved with the church and remain on the PCC. We would like to thank her very much indeed for the work she has done and continues to do for St Cuthbert’s. Before we consider asking anyone else to become churchwarden, we probably need to reconsider how we organise the running of St Cuthbert’s.
Sing Christmas – Once again, we are joining with the Methodist Church to take part in the BBC Radio Leicester’s ‘Sing Christmas’ at The Yews in Great Glen at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, 21st December. Please support this and invite anybody that might enjoy this more informal Carol Service.
In the week running up to Christmas Day, on BBC1, in the highly sort after 9pm slot, four 30 minute episodes of a new drama on the Nativity will air. Written by the creator of Life on Mars & Hustle and the principal writer on Eastenders since 1989, the BBC have set out to make, what they consider to be the definitive drama of the Christmas story.
Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.
Christmas Tree Festival – The results from last weekend’s Christmas Tree Festival at Burton Overy are:-
Adult Section
1st The Cyril Tree by Margaret Lee
2nd The Lost Sock Tree by Doreen Randall and Judith Randall
3rd All Wrapped Up by Louisa Rawlings and Zoe Williamson
Junior Section
1st A Fir Cone Tree by Eleanor Broughton
2nd Strictly Moose by Harriet and Freddie Gill
3rd A Scalextric Christmas by Henry Broughton
Well done to the winners! A really big thank you to all who entered a tree, it wouldn’t have been possible without you. The church looked absolutely beautiful, lit up with the tree lights. Thank you to those who decorated the church too! Everyone worked so hard to make it a success. Thank you. Lizzie King
Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.
Please pray:-
For couples as they set out on married life.
For all who are ill or suffering.
For the family and friends of those who have past away as they grieve.
For those anxious about jobs or businesses.
For peace in our homes as we prepare for Christmas.
For the elderly as they cope with freezing weather.
For those responsible for transport in this country as we face more bad weather, and for all those travelling to be with their families over Christmas.
For all who will be working over the Christmas holiday.
For our armed forces and their families, especially those who will not be together this Christmas.
Proverb of the Week: “We can gather our thoughts, but the Lord gives the right answer..” (Proverbs 16 v1)
