At Communion Services
If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine. Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

TONIGHT
A Big Mission Partnership Choral Evensong with a choir of 30 plus people drawn from neighbouring
churches will take place at St Cuthbert’s Church at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday, 13th
May. The theme is the Queen’s Diamond
Jubilee with music from her Coronation service.
The Very Revd Derek Hole will be preaching and will tell us about his
role as a Queen’s Chaplain. This is the only one of these lovely big choral
evensong services this year so DON’T MISS IT!
Bring any of your friends who enjoy traditional services – this is a
really lovely one. Why not invite
someone who hasn’t been to church for a while?
JUST
A DAY LEFT to find items
for the Jubilee Memorabilia Exhibition at St Cuthbert’s Church - Peter Scott
would like all items for display to be given to Mary by Monday, 14th
May, so he has a fortnight to work out how best to display everything. Keep the memorabilia coming – but make sure
it’s clearly marked with your name and contact details before you lend it to
us!!
The
Ascension Day Tower Service will be held at 7.30 a.m. on Thursday, 17th May, followed by
breakfast (bacon butties!) beautifully cooked and kindly provided by Richard
and Anne Bloor at The Springs, Carlton Lane.
Half of us climb to the top of the tower, the other half stay at the
bottom and we share the same short service ending with a ‘shout in turn’
praise! There is enough time for
children to get to local schools before the beginning of their school day. Do come and join us – all welcome!
School
Visit to St Cuthbert’s Church next Thursday at 9.45 a.m. We
need people to tell the children about various parts of the church – if you
could help, please contact Mary. The
visit will last about an hour so will just overlap with Drop-In but their
teacher thinks it will be good for them to see people using the church so
hopefully some of you will be there when it starts at 10.30 a.m.!
Diamond
Jubilee Big Lunch at St
Cuthbert’s Church is a Bring Your Own affair – or Bring and Share – whichever
you wish! The service on 3rd
June starts at 11 a.m. (not 10.30 a.m.) so that it will be lunchtime by the
time the service ends, we’ve walked down to the village green to plant the oak
tree and walked back to church. There
will be parking in Libby Carr’s field opposite the junction with Church Road
(disabled parking only on Church
Road which will be closed between Sence Crescent and London Road for the
day). So come prepared and stay to enjoy
the day! The Scouts are erecting gazebos
to provide extra shelter for people in addition to the church.
Sparklers
needs a leader – We need
someone who is willing to chat to and get to know the families who come and
occasionally lead the short simple service (song, story, prayers). Please can everyone pray about this and think
about who might be able to take on this role for us. Contact Mary on 259 2238 with any queries or
thoughts.
