At Communion Services


If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.   Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

Bring and Share BBQ lunchSunday 26th August. 12 noon onwards, in St. Cuthbert’s Vicarage Garden, weather permitting! Plenty of space for everyone do come and join us. Bring you own plates and cups and cold drinks. We will provide the cutlery, tea and coffee.

 A Bake & Brew Coffee Morning in aid of the Children’s Society will be held on Wednesday 5th September, 10am-12 noon at 23 beechfield close – donation £2.  Children’s Society Boxes will be opened during the morning.

Ride and Stride Day Saturday, 8th September.  Why don't you bicycle or walk around some of the churches in Leicestershire which will be open this day.  It is a chance to raise funds for any church in the Benefice.  Sponsorship forms are available in church.
  • If you want to join a walk or a ride, meet at Burton Overy Church at 2.00pm and then end with tea at The Springs, Carlton Lane, Burton Overy.  If you do not want to ride or stride, JUST COME FOR TEA anytime from 4.00pm and make a donation to any of the churches in our Benefice!

URGENT: Only 9 tickets sold so far for the Flower-arranging Demonstration by Rosemary Mason on Thursday 6th September, 7.30pm at Glen Village Hall.  Rosie holds a warrant for making the posies carried by the Queen and her attendants at the Maundy Services.  Amy Cook has kindly organised this fundraising event in aid of St Cuthbert's Church funds.  Please can you find people to buy tickets which cost £10 (to include a glass of wine and refreshments), available from Amy Cook (259 2610), Roger Flowers and David Webster.

LUNCH & LEP discussions – On 16th September we have arranged to share lunch with our Methodist friends after the joint 10.30am service and the meeting following it.  We would be grateful if people could offer to contribute food for this lunch – there will be a list at the back of church for people to indicate what they will bring (meat/savoury; salad; potato/bread; or desserts) and how many portions their offering will serve.

Parish Share: All PCC & DCC members are invited to attend a special Deanery Synod Meeting on Wednesday 3rd October, 7.30pm at Kibworth Church to hear about a possible new system of calculating parish share which may be calculated on a local deanery level.  At this meeting the Diocesan Secretary, Jonathan Kerry, will be talking about a pilot scheme that has been taking place elsewhere in the diocese and sharing the diocese’s vision for what may be proposed to the Diocesan Synod. 

CHRISTIAN PRAYER AND SPIRITUALITY; AN INTRODUCTION: Wed 19th September, 7pm – 9.30pm at Christ the King, Beaumont Leys, is the first session of a nine week introduction to various traditions of Christian prayer and spirituality, including opportunity each week for practice.

  • Areas covered will include scriptural foundations, lectio divina, desert tradition and Benedictine spirituality, Icons and the Jesus Prayer, Imaginative Prayer, the Examen, Contemplative Prayer, Prayer and the Creative Arts. Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system.  If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.
