At Communion Services

If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.   Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES

Christmas Cards - Thank you to everyone who put a card to all their friends on St Cuthbert's Church notice board.  £19.20 was raised for the Children's Society.

Lent Course - This year's Lent Course will take place at 7.30 p.m. on five Wednesdays from 20th February to 20th March at Glen Methodist Church.  We will be following a York Course called Glimpses of God and the booklets will cost each participant £3.40.  Please can you sign the list at the back of church by 3rd February if you want us to order the booklets for you.

Thursday "Drop-In"  is an opportunity to meet up for a chat and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea.  We try to have two members of the congregation here each week to act as hosts.  If you would like to help out by taking a turn, please tell Mary or Amy.

Big Choral Evensongs - Our next big Mission Partnership Evensong takes place on Sunday, 17th February at 6.30 p.m. at Christ Church, Smeeton Westerby.  Bishop Tim will be preaching at this service.  Please put the date in your diaries, invite your friends.  The second of these two annual services will be on Sunday, 21st April, at 6.30 p.m. at Kings Norton Church.

Flower Rota - There is a calendar on the table at the back of church for people to indicate when they would like to do flowers on the altar.

Sound System and Hearing Loop for St Cuthbert's Church - I am delighted to be able to tell you that we can now go ahead with commissioning a new sound system and hearing loop as quite a number of people came forward after last Sunday's services and generously offered a donation.  We would be grateful, therefore, if everybody who has offered a donation could now send the money (cheques payable to  St Cuthbert's PCC) to the Vicar who will then pass it all on to the treasurer.  If you are able to gift aid your donation, please include your name, address and postcode - but don't gift aid it if you don't pay enough tax in the year to cover it!  THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

New Churchwardens and a Treasurer will be needed for St Cuthbert's Church after Easter to take over from David and Jane who have served us so well.  Please can everyone think and pray about this matter - the church is a community so it is the responsibility of ALL of us to help find replacements for David and Jane.  We are immensely grateful for all that David and Jane have done for St Cuthbert's Church.

Evening Services - From February onwards, there will normally be three evening services each month - the first Sunday at Glen Methodist Church, the second Sunday at Burton Overy and the third Sunday at St Cuthbert's Church.  Each service will be the usual service for that church but will be available for both Anglicans and Methodists - effectively the evening services will all be 'United  Services'.

Church cleaning at St Cuthbert's - There is a new list in church for willing volunteers to sign for when it would be convenient for them to take a turn.  The dates are mainly fortnightly beginning on a Monday which means you can clean at any time during that period at your convenience.  Volunteers need to be aware of any extra services which may be taking place.  Cleaning materials are provided and you may need a key.  We could do with one or two more helpers to spread the load.

An Evening of Antiques with Charles Hanson takes place on the 8th February at Bunning Hall, Main Street, Cosby, LE9 1UU at 6.30 p.m. for hot buffet at 6.45 p.m.  Tickets are £10 each which will include the hot buffet meal and soft drinks (own drinks may be brought if desired), a talk and valuation of your own antiques by Charles Hanson.  The event will finish at approximately 9 p.m.  Proceeds in aid of St Michael & All Angels Church, Cosby.  Tickets are obtainable from Sheila Groocock on 0116 286 2652.

The Real Easter Egg - The Real Easter Egg created by the Meaningful Chocolate Company is a fairtrade egg that also tells the Easter story and the reason for Easter eggs (the chocolate tastes nice too!).  A colourful version of the Easter story is included and some stickers and there is also an Easter quiz - all for just £3.99  If you are planning to give any Easter Eggs or make use of them in school or church, then why not think about it.  You can order from Christian Resources at St Martins House, 7 Peacock Lane, Leicester, LE1 5PZ (tel 0116 261 5222).

Humour is a gift – Written by an NHS medical secretary:  "Patient's medical history has been remarkably insignificant with only a 40 pound weight gain in the past three days.".

Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

Please pray:-

·         For Roger Harris, Phyllis Stanley, Richard Shepherd, Laura Record, John Spencer, Myra Humphrey, Judith Buffrey’s grandson Joel, Lucy Newman (nee Ireland) and all who are ill.
·         For the family and friends of Peter L’homme who died recently.
·         For those unable to venture outdoors because of the cold weather.
·         That the recent Israeli election will help bring peace in the Middle East.
·         For success in the campaign to 'End Hunger Forever'.
·         For those who have been injured or bereaved in recent international events.
