NOTICES

St Cuthbert's Church Fete - The PCC have decided to hold a church fete on Saturday, 8th June, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Please let us know if there is any problem with this date so it can be changed if necessary. The fete organisers this year are David Graves (271 4420), David Webster (259 3717) and Roger Flowers (0776 879 4662). They would be grateful for any good ideas and offers of help.

Lent Course - This year's Lent Course will take place at 7.30 p.m. on five Wednesdays from 20th February to 20th March at Glen Methodist Church. We will be following a York Course called Glimpses of God and the booklets will cost each participant £3.40. Please can you sign the list at the back of church by 3rd February if you are coming and if you want us to order the booklets for you.

Hear Justin Welby - Mary went with her daughter, Alice, to hear the Archbishop-elect Justin Welby speak at her Nottingham church last Sunday evening. He and his wife Caroline were first interviewed about how they'd come to faith and their journey since, and then Justin gave a short talk. You can hear or watch it all if you go onto the church website www.trentvineyard.org and click on the Media tab - it's easy to find and I'm sure you will find it very interesting.

Church cleaning at St Cuthbert's - So far only ONE person has put their name down on the rota. PLEASE can you all consider offering to clean the church, even if it's only once or twice a year. The list is at the back of church for you to choose which date(s) you can do. See previous notice for further details or contact Amy Cook (259 2610).

Messy Church @ School is next Thursday, 7th February, from 3.30 p.m. until 4.30 p.m. We are returning to the Community Centre Lounge at St Cuthbert's School which is a much better space. It's for children under 11 years accompanied by a parent or other adult. We start with refreshments and the bible story and then the children have fun getting messy!

Timeout will now be on the second Saturday of each month. Timeout is for the whole family - parents and grandparents can enjoy a chat while we play with the children. February's timeout is at The Yews from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, 9th February. Buy your own drinks - and food if you wish.

Big Choral Evensong Services - These have had various names, e.g. big, Area, Mission Partnership, etc but are now beginning to be known as Gartree Choral Evensong services which is a good description as Gartree is an ancient name for this area! Everyone is welcome regardless of where they live or worship so do invite anyone who might enjoy these services.

New Churchwardens and a Treasurer will be needed for St Cuthbert's Church after Easter to take over from David and Jane who have served us so well. Please can everyone think and pray about this matter - the church is a community so it is the responsibility of ALL of us to help find replacements for David and Jane. We are immensely grateful for all that David and Jane have done for St Cuthbert's Church.

Sound System and Hearing Loop for St Cuthbert's Church - I am delighted to be able to tell you that we can now go ahead with commissioning a new sound system and hearing loop as quite a number of people came forward after last Sunday's services and generously offered a donation. We would be grateful, therefore, if everybody who has offered a donation could now send the money (cheques payable to St Cuthbert's PCC) to the Vicar who will then pass it all on to the treasurer. If you are able to gift aid your donation, please include your name, address and postcode - but don't gift aid it if you don't pay enough tax in the year to cover it! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

Flower Rota - There is a calendar on the table at the back of church for people to indicate when they would like to do flowers on the altar.
Phyllis Hallam would like to thank all those kind people who have sent gifts of scones, cakes and flowers and all who have visited or phoned. It is very much appreciated.

Humour is a gift – Written by an NHS medical secretary: "Patient has chest pain if she lies on her left side for over a year."

Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

Please pray:-

• For Roger Harris, Phyllis Stanley, Richard Shepherd, Laura Record, John Spencer, Myra Humphrey, Judith Buffrey’s grandson Joel, Lucy Newman (nee Ireland) and all who are ill.
• For the family and friends of Peter L'homme whose funeral is this week.
• For the couples preparing to get married in our churches this year.
• For Right Revd Justin Welby as he prepares to become Archbishop of Canterbury, and for his wife and family as they move house.
• For anyone who has had damage caused by the recent strong winds.
• For a resolution to the troubles in Algeria, Mali, Egypt and Syria.

Proverb of the Week: “The LORD is more pleased when we do what is just and right than when we give him sacrifices.” (Proverbs 21 v3)
