NOTICES
Breakfast will be served this Sunday, 13th, at St Cuthbert's Church
at about 9.15 a.m. Do join us for hot
croissants and homemade jam and marmalade - why not come early for the 10.30
a.m. service!
Lent Course - This year's Lent Course will take place at 7.30 p.m. on
five Wednesdays from 20th February to 20th March at Glen Methodist
Church . We will be following a York Course called
Glimpses of God and the booklets will cost each participant £3.40. Please can you sign the list at the back of
church by 3rd February if you are coming so that we can order the booklets for
you.
Big
Choral Evensong - Our next big Mission Partnership Choral Evensong takes place
on Sunday, 17th February at 6.30 p.m. at Christ Church ,
Smeeton Westerby. Bishop Tim will be
preaching at this service. Please put
the date in your diaries, invite your friends, and if you'd like to join the
special choir for this occasion please contact Arthur Whitfield on 259
2703. The second of these annual
services will be on Sunday, 21st April at Kings Norton Church at 6.30 p.m.
Sound System and Hearing
Loop for St Cuthbert's Church - We are about £400 -
£500 short of the amount of donations needed to enable us to purchase this and
we need to let the suppliers know if we are going ahead with this fairly
soon. If you can make a donation (large
or small - it all adds up), please contact Mary as soon as possible. If 10 people gave £50 each or 25 people gave
£20 each, we would have enough – it should be within our reach!
Evening Services - From March onwards, there will normally be three
evening services each month - the first Sunday at Glen Methodist
Church , the second Sunday
at Burton Overy and the third Sunday at St Cuthbert's Church. Each service will be the usual service for
that church but will be available for both Anglicans and Methodists -
effectively the evening services will all be 'United Services'.
Thank you everyone who helped clean and tidy up our churches after Christmas
- they look so nice and welcoming and we all appreciate it.
Church cleaning at St
Cuthbert's - Many thanks to Kate Brookes (who
did a lot of the church cleaning last year) and also to the other volunteers
who all kept our church looking very spick and span. There is a new list in church for willing
volunteers to sign for when it would be convenient for them to take a
turn. The dates are mainly fortnightly
beginning on a Monday which means you can clean at any time during that period
at your convenience. Volunteers need to
be aware of any extra services which may be taking place. Cleaning materials are provided and you may
need a key. It would be wonderful if we
could have one or two more helpers to spread the load.
Flower Rota - There is a calendar on the table at the back of church
for people to indicate when they would like to do flowers on the altar. Dates may need to be amended depending on
whether there is a wedding – we should have information about weddings by early
February.
Great Glen Charity For those struggling financially in the aftermath of
Christmas, there is money to help people buy vital new equipment such as a
washing machine and so, if you ever hear a comment like "I don't know how
I'm going to manage without, please get in touch with the Vicar or one of the
other trustees.
The Eton Choir are coming to Leicester Cathedral on 2nd February at 7
p.m. to give a choral performance in aid of Hope against Cancer and Parkinsons
UK. Adults £10 and under 14s £5. For more information, please call 0116 270
0101 or email enquiries@hfcr.org.uk
Age UK Shops need fresh supplies of things to sell. If you have anything to donate, please take
it to one of their shops - large items such as furniture can be collected by
calling 0116 278 1208.
Children during the 10.30
a.m. Communion Services - There are bible quizzes, colouring
pictures, bible stories, etc available in a children's area in the north aisle
(whether at Glen or Burton ). We hope that all children will come to the
altar with their families to receive a blessing (or communion if they normally
receive this).
Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy has a hearing
loop as part of the loudspeaker system.
If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you
will hear the service clearly.
Humour is a gift – My daughter
asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our local pet shop and
they were £70. "Blow this" I
thought, "I can get one cheaper off the web".
Lifts to Services - If you need a lift to any of our services, please
contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton and they will
arrange one for you.
Please pray:-
·
For Roger Harris, Richard Shepherd, Laura Record,
John Spencer, Myra Humphrey , Judith
Buffrey’s grandson Joel, and all who are ill.
·
For the family and friends of Marian McArragher
whose funeral is this week.
·
For students doing GCSE and A level exam modules.
·
For greater thoughtfulness over food production and
wastage.
