At Communion Services

If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.   Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES

Sound System and Hearing Loop for St Cuthbert's Church - Several people
have kindly agreed to make generous donations but we need some more to
enable us to purchase this system.  Please consider prayerfully if you can
contribute something however large or small as it all mounts up and contact
the Vicar.

Sparklers will start again on Monday, 7th January.  As the school term
doesn't start until the next day, we would love to see any children who are
now at school or pre-school - it will be a special Sparklers Reunion!

Epiphany - You are ALL invited on Tuesday, 8th January 2013, to join with
Kilby & Wistow cum Newton Harcourt Mothers' Union group at their Epiphany
Service in Burton Overy Church commencing at 10.30 a.m.  Come and join us
as we journey along with the three Magi to meet the Baby Jesus.  Tea/coffee will be available following the service.

Sparklers/Messy Church/Timeout Party (Christmas or New Year party?!!) will be held next Saturday 12th January, 4-6pm at St. Cuthbert’s Church.  If you could help us run this party please get in touch with Tessa Mynott (259 2784) or Mary.

Big MP Choral Evensong Services: there are two of these each year and in 2013 they will be as follows:

Sunday 17th February at Smeeton Westerby Church at 6.30pm

Sunday 21st April at Kings Norton Church at 6.30pm.

A special choir is formed for these services with practices both at Glen and at Kibworth – if you or anyone you know would like to join the choir for one or both of these services please ask them to get in touch with Arthur Whitfield (259 2703) for the rehearsal dates.

Great Glen Charity
For those struggling financially in the aftermath of Christmas, there is money to help people buy vital new equipment such as a washing machine and so, if you ever hear a comment like "I don't know how I'm going to manage without…." please get in touch with the Vicar or one of the other trustees (Fraser Gilbert, Alan Selway, Gerry Hinks, Andrew Duerdon).

Lost key - A silver 5 lever key with a blue tab (with gold Viking head embossed on it) has been found.  If you know anyone who has lost such a key, please contact David Graves on 271 4420.

There will be a Recital at St Margaret's Church, Leicester on Thursday, 10th January from 1 p.m. until 1.30 p.m. with John Bence on harpsichord and Ben Carr on recorder.  Admission free.  Tea and coffee provided.

A FREE Concert entitled "Eternal Light" takes place in Oakham School Chapel on 1st Feb 2013 at 7.45pm.  The Oakham School Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Choir and Chamber Orchestra with solo harpist Elizabeth Bass will be performing:-

Evening Services: from February onwards there will normally be 3 evening services each month - 1st Sunday at Glen Methodist Church, 2nd Sunday at Burton Overy, 3rd Sunday at St. Cuthbert’s Church.  Each service will be the usual service for that church but will be available for both Anglicans and Methodists – effectively the evening services will all be ‘United Services’.

Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services - There are bible quizzes, colouring pictures, bible stories, etc available in a children's area in the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton).  We hope that all children will come to the altar with their families to receive a blessing (or communion).

Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy has a hearing loop as part
of the loudspeaker system.  If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to
the T position and you will hear the service clearly.

Humour is a gift – A confirmation student was asked to list the Ten Commandments in any order.  He wrote "3, 6, 1, 8, 4, 5, 9, 2, 10, 7."

Lifts to Services - If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton and they will arrange one for you.

Keeping people in touch – Please do take copies of this news-sheet to anyone you know who might be interested, especially to those who can’t get to church at the moment.

Please pray:-

·         For Richard Shepherd, Laura Record, John Spencer, Myra Humphrey, Judith Buffrey’s grandson Joel, Lucy Newman (Ireland) and all who are ill.
