NOTICES

Easter Sunday United Service - Following breakfast in the Methodist church hall, we shall start the 10.30 a.m. Family Service in the Methodist Church (with the young families downstairs this year!), then process up to St Cuthbert's for the Holy Communion part of the service, followed by the children's Easter Egg treasure hunt.

This Easter we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Arthur Whitfield becoming organist for St Cuthbert's Church.  We would like to thank him wholeheartedly for this long and dedicated service to the church and for all the pleasure he has given so many people over so many years!  THANK YOU ARTHUR!

Sunday Breakfast will be served at St Cuthbert's Church after the
8.30 a.m. service o the 14th April.  Do come and join us for tea, coffee and croissants - your last chance to eat Mary's home-made jam or her mother's home-made marmalade!!

The Bible Study Group will meet on Tuesday, 2nd April, at 7.30 p.m. at The Springs, Carlton Lane, Burton Overy to continue looking at the Book of Genesis.  All welcome.

Timeout will meet again on Saturday, 13th April, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at The Yews, Great Glen.  This event is a social time for young families with a short time of prayer for their concerns and enjoy some company, a drink (food if you wish) and games and toys are provided for the children.

The Rogation Pilgrimage will take place on Sunday, 28th April.  Starting this year at Glen Methodist Church at 10.30 a.m. we will walk to Burton Overy and on to Carlton Curlieu where we end with tea and cakes in the church.  En route we will sing and pray in local farms and the churches.  The route and timetable will be available beforehand - come and join us for as little or as much of the pilgrimage as you wish - walk, cycle or drive!!  Bring your own lunch to eat at Burton Overy Village Hall.  IF the weather forecast is abominable, there will be Morning Prayer at St Andrew's, Burton Overy instead!

Church Annual General Meetings - Burton Overy's meeting takes place on Thursday, 18th April at 7.30 p.m. in the Village Hall - the series of meetings starts with the election of churchwardens, the Burton & Carlton PCC AGM followed by Burton DCC AGM and ends with a brief DCC meeting.  Great Glen's AGM will take place at St Cuthbert's Church on Wednesday, 24th April, starting with cheese and wine for everyone at
7 p.m. - all welcome to this social meeting!

New Dean for Leicester Cathedral - It has just been announced that, following a rigorous selection process, Canon David Monteith has been appointed Dean - he came to preach at St Cuthbert's towards the end of our last funding campaign.

The Archdeacon met representatives of our PCCs on the 19th March to outline the procedure for finding a new incumbent for the benefice.  Further discussion will take place between these PCC representatives regarding the creation of a parish profile before the next meeting with the Archdeacon and all PCC and DCC members some time in May.

Wigston Male Voice Choir - Listen to this popular choir in St Peter's Church,  Church Lane, Whetstone at 7.30 p.m. on the 20th April.  Tickets £6 (includes light refreshments) from Norma tel 0116 277 0311.

Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system.  If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.

Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services - There are bible quizzes, colouring pictures, bible stories, etc available in a children's area in the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton).  We hope that all children will come to the altar with their families to receive a blessing (or communion if they normally receive this).

Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

Humour is a gift – Written by an NHS medical secretary:  "Occasional, constant infrequent headaches."

Please pray:-
·         For Jeffrey Whelband, Jane Gemmell, Laura Record and Kathryn Mosely who are to be confirmed on Easter Sunday - that their relationship with God will grow ever closer.
·         For Phyllis Stanley, Laura Record, John Spencer, Myra Humphrey, Judith Buffrey’s grandson Joel, Rachel Stevens, and all who are ill.
·         For those going away this Easter, that they may enjoy a refreshing break.
·         For those affected by the continuing cold weather.
·         For all afflicted by violence in Syria, Iraq, Africa and elsewhere, and for all trying to bring peace to the troubled areas of our world.

Proverb of the Week:  “The wicked put up a bold front, but the upright proceed with care.” (Proverbs 21 v29)
